Notice from the archbishop to the official of York to summon a convocation on 3 September

Secundo Nonarum Augusti [4 August] 1313. Apud Beverl[ac]um. Convocatio cleri pro subsidio domino regi concedendo per officialem Eboracensem. Officiali nostro Eboracensi. Nuper cum essemus London[iis] dominus noster rex praelatos et procuratores cleri Cantuariensis provinciae tune praesentes requiri fecit ut quamdam collectam quatuor denariorum de qualibet marca beneficiorum ecclesiasticorum dictae Cantuariensis provinciae per bonae memoriae Dominum R[obertum] quondam Cantuariensem archiepiscopum, in suo provinciali concilio dudum impositam ac levatam, dicto domino regi vellent concedere ad praesumptuosam invasionem Scotorum favente Domino reprimendam.

Nos igitur ex parte eiusdem domini nostri regis cum magna fuimus instantia requisiti quod praelatos et clerum nostrae provinciae, praesertim cum propinquiores sumus periculo imminenti, efficaciter inducere curaremus ut consimile subsidium, videlicet quatuor denariorum de qualibet marca de singulis beneficiis ecclesiasticis nostrarum civitatis, dioecesis et provinciae, ob causam praedictam eidem domino nostro regi concederentur hac vice necessitate non modica perurgente.

Cum igitur absque convocatione praelatorum et cleri nostrarum civitatis, dioecesis et provinciae nequaquam valeat huiusmodi negotium expediri, vobis in virtute oboedientiae iniungimus et mandamus quatenus citetis seu citari faciatis peremptorie universos abbates, prioresque abbates proprios non habentes, ipsorumque conventus, decanos, archidiaconos et praepositos nostrae civitatis et dieocesis totumque clerum nostrum eiusdem dioecesis, quod videlicet abbates, priores, archidiaconi et praepositi per se vel per procuratores sufficienter instructos, capitula vero singula per procuratores singulos, et clerus per duos procuratores idoneos et sufficienter instructos ac plenam et sufficientem potestatem ab ipsis abbatibus, prioribus, archidiaconis, praepositis, capitulis et clero habentes, in ecclesia nostra Eboracensi tertio die mensis Septembris [3 September 1313] compareant coram nobis ad tractandum in dicta convocatione nobiscum et cum ceteris praelatis ac procuratoribus cleri nostrarum civitatis, dioecesis et provinciae super memorato subsidio concedendo, ac ad faciendum ulterius super illo quod communi videbitur iudicio faciendum. De die vero receptionis praesentium et qualiter hoc nostrum mandatum fueritis executi, nos citra dictum tertium diem Septembris per quatuor dies certificetis distincte et aperte per vestras patentes literas harum seriem continentes.
