Changes to archdeaconries, 1836-59
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 10 January 2024
Summary
By a parliamentary statute of 13 August 1836 (6-7 William IV, c. 77) eleven archdeaconries within the province of Canterbury were transferred from one diocese to another, and one was transferred from the province of York. In addition to this, seven more were created or revived, and one was suppressed, albeit temporarily. The following list explains this, with dates when the change became effective. A blank in the ‘from’ column indicates a new creation (or a revival, distinguished by an asterisk) and one in the ‘to’ column indicates a suppression.
