Summary
The Introduction describes biological and psychological aspects of memory. It explains the structure and methodology of the book, how it addresses differences between the ethics of neuroscience and the neuroscience of ethics and how these differences bear on memory research. It outlines the main issues in the six chapters of the book, including memory systems and stages, the role of memory in identity and agency, disorders of memory capacity and content and legal issues regarding memory.
