Summary
The basilar artery sits midline, on the ventral surface of the pons, and is formed by a combination of two vertebral arteries. As it reaches the rostral midbrain, it splits terminally into two posterior cerebral arteries. Small perforating arteries coming off the basilar artery supply blood to the pons.
