Summary
Located in the medulla, just lateral to the dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus and ventral to the vestibular nucleus, the nucleus solitarius and its tract (together referred to as the “nucleus tractus solitarius” [NTS]) serve as the major sensory input nucleus for the cranial nerves VII, IX, and X.
