Summary
The superior olivary nucleus, also called the superior olivary complex, is a small structure located in the caudal ventral pons at the level of the middle cerebellar peduncle that serves as a vital relay station for auditory information. Specifically, the superior olive receives information from the cochlear nuclei via the trapezoid body. The superior olivary nucleus further transmits this information to the inferior colliculus via the lateral lemniscus. This signal is then sent to the medial geniculate nucleus, then to the thalamus, and finally to the auditory cortex.
