Summary
The suprascapular nerve is supplied by the C5 and C6 nerve roots and is the only nerve that originates from the upper trunk of the brachial plexus. After branching from the brachial plexus, it travels laterally with the suprascapular artery and vein, deep to the trapezius muscle, and passes through the suprascapular notch, bordered above by the suprascapular ligament, into the supraspinatus fossa. There, it innervates the supraspinatus muscle before continuing into the infraspinous fossa via the spinoglenoid notch and innervating the infraspinatus muscle.
