Summary

The deep fibular nerve (DFN) is one of the two branches of the common fibular nerve once it divides near the fibular neck. After branching, the deep fibular nerve travels inferomedially to the anterior leg slightly medial to the tibia, then descends to the leg adjacent to the anterior tibial artery, and deep to the extensor digitorum longus muscle. After passing anterior to the ankle joint, adjacent to the dorsalis pedis artery, it divides on the dorsum of the foot into its medial and lateral terminal branches.
