Spenser.We have already traced with a considerable accuracy, derived from no common sources, the lives of some of the most renowned of our Naval Officers, who have distinguished themselves during the present war. The future historian will thus possess additional information, beyond the official letters of the day; and will be enabled to enliven his page with those discriminating features of character, that might otherwise have been lost: the performance of this task has been attended with much difficulty; though success has crowned our labours, the delicacy of our situation is continually present to our thoughts. The subject of the present memoir has long been a favourite of the public; and as no circumstantial account of his professional life has appeared, we shall proceed to furnish our readers with a narrative, on the correctness of which they may rely.
Sir John Borlase Warren is descended from an ancient family, whose estates were situated in Buckinghamshire, and Nottinghamshire.
