Summary
This chapter examines the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood’s post-2011 efforts to win back its support base among the Syrian population, silence its internal dissenters and leverage its international connections to strengthen its position. It highlights the long shadow that history has cast over the Brotherhood, with fear of repeating past mistakes and internal paralysis preventing the group’s regeneration, and subsequently preventing it from rebuilding the trust of those on the ground.
