Summary
The weakening of the Republican party organization and the counter-movement agfainst civil rights and liberalism created the incentives and the opening for a new take-no-prisoners conservative movemetn to enter the GOP and defeat its moderate branch. This was the major force leading to the current polarizaiton of American politics.
