The menopause remains a time of transition for women and brings many issues of interest to the gynaecologist. Although recent years have seen a substantial change in the attitude to prescribing hormone replacement therapy, there is a need for all those involved with women of the age group to be well informed. This is an authoritative guide, written by an author, Margaret Rees, who has a tremendous national and international reputation in the field. This volume covers the controversies in the field and, importantly, all aspects that a woman is likely to enquire about during a consultation. The gynaecologist is expected to be knowledgeable about the options, both medical and alternative — both are comprehensively reviewed here. The final chapter deals with women who have more complex problems and their management. All in all, a hugely useful read, both for examination preparation and to update the practitioner.
