Design of the oocyte collection room with the adjoining areas is an important step, as this influences the patient’s journey and experience through the IVF clinic and affects success rates. Siting of these areas close to the laboratory allows an uninterrupted and easily traceable route of gametes from the patient into the incubator in the lab with minimal exposure to outside potentially harmful factors. Guidelines exist for the dimensions of the physical space necessary, the equipment needed and the additional paraphernalia that are utilized in the oocyte collection room, which may double as a place to surgically obtain sperm or transfer embryos. These factors are described in detail in this chapter, along with good practice recommendations for oocyte collection.
