Summary
As Brenda Hale reached the latter part of her career as a judge in the UK Supreme Court (UKSC), news media reported another achievement to add to her long list: becoming a ‘recognisable figure in the wider culture’ and a ‘household name’. This was in part attributed to intense media interest surrounding one particular case, R (on the application of Miller) v. The Prime Minister (hereafter Miller (No. 2)), in which the Court unanimously declared the government’s advice to the Queen to prorogue Parliament unlawful because it stopped Parliament carrying out its constitutional functions without reasonable justification. But this is not the only evidence of her high public profile.
