Summary
It is clear from the start: ‘Brenda’ is a name of Old Norse origin, its meaning is ‘sword’, the sword is one attribute of Iustitia, and Iustitia is called, in English, a ‘Lady’ (Justice). So there we are.
And we are not. Lady Brenda Hale would not hesitate to point out, as she did in her reaction to the praise she received when she left the UK Supreme Court in December 2019: ‘There is always another side to a story.’
