Summary

This mixture of literature and propaganda found its primary exponent in Charles W. Gordon (1860–1937) of eastern Ontario, who was ordained a Presbyterian minister in Calgary in 1890. Better known by his penname of Ralph Connor, he was the top Canadian fiction writer of the first quarter of the twentieth century.
