Summary
History lives in the every day. When a boy stoops down to plant rice seedlings in Mahasthan, he can be sure that others have performed the same act, in the same field, for at least 3,000 years. When a honey collector bows to the goddess Bonbibi before entering the Sundarban wetlands, they stand in a millennia-long tradition. And when a woman sees floodwater submerging her home, she knows that, for tens of thousands of years, her forebears have had the same experience.
