Gynecologic Care is one of three texts addressing the key pillars of the practice of obstetrics and gynecology: office practice, obstetrics, and gynecology. It joins Office Care of Women and Obstetric Care in a series that covers the breadth of the Ob/Gyn specialty. The focus of Gynecologic Care is on gynecologic care including appropriate evaluation, medical therapy, and surgical management of both benign and malignant conditions. A unique section called “General Considerations” rounds out coverage of materials seen as essential knowledge for Ob/Gyn physicians by leaders in the specialty.
We all strive to provide the best evidence-based care; this book not only delivers attention to disease process and effective treatment, but also identifies the context in which clinicians deliver care. Concise yet comprehensive chapters address clinical diagnoses and surgical procedures. The 45 chapters in Gynecologic Care include not only surgical and conservative management, but also information on cultural issues, ethical considerations, and patient safety. The textbook reviews other important issues, which impact the ways we serve our patients including legal considerations, practice management, and maintenance of physicians’ health.
As with the other texts in this series, the book is designed to be easily readable from beginning to end. The reader will develop a solid understanding of the diagnosis and management of gynecologic conditions, including both medical and surgical therapy. We hope that the book will serve as a reference for day-to-day practice and a springboard from which a clinician may explore a topic in more depth by guiding him or her to review the referenced literature.
In an era of rapidly expanding medical knowledge, this book creates a foundation for excellent gynecologic care for the women we serve and thus promotes their well-being and that of their families.
