The production of quantitative measures for the verbal picture description and verbal picture recall tasks was relatively complicated. This appendix provides information on the coding and scoring procedures used for these two verbal tasks.

Description
The following is one verbal description of the stimulus shown in figure 2.
I see a man that's giving uh food to a group of three sows. In the background is a-a some kind of a hut with a thatched roof and behind that are what seem to be palm trees and in the very far distance there is a stone wall. Over that there is a cloud. To the right of that- of the scene is a well that has a bucket on the edge of it and in the front foreground of the photog- of the picture there seems to be a pile of rocks. Uhm, at the left (of) the picture there are two uh bundles of sticks in the foreground. On the left there's a hen or a rooster – I'm not sure which. Uh, leaning against the hut there is a broom and uh two bottles. One looks like it's empty, the other is upright. And a young man is walking toward the older man that's feeding the sows. And there is a cloud over the stone wall.
