In Chapter 14, we considered the issue of student speech. In this chapter, we shift our attention to faculty and to educational institutions themselves. The right of faculty to engage in the uncensored exchange of ideas, and of institutions to create space for them to do so, is traditionally referred to as “academic freedom.”
