Summary
To our lord the king, the poor Friars Minor of St Edmund pray of His Grace that he would command that the hall of pleas of Cattishall which is to be removed by the procurement of certain people should not be rebuilt to the damage and nuisance of the friars, as at another time the king commanded Sir William de Suttone, sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk. For if it is built where certain people have provided and ordered, this will be to the great harm and damage of the friars, for the reason that when it rains or it is stormy, the people will have no refuge, either for themselves or for their horses, except in the church of the friars. At other times it happens that when they are assembled the friars are unable to say mass or do other things well because of the noise and press of the people. On account of this, sire, take pity on the friars, and do not suffer that the prayers and masses of the friars, said for you, are so much disturbed. But sire, if it is your pleasure, let it rather be built closer to the town so that the people may have quicker recourse to that town than to the friars.
[Response on reverse] The king orders that if they wish to build that hall, they should set it up in such a place that it should not be to the detriment of the friars.
