Summary
Epilepsy is the enduring tendency for recurrent, unprovoked seizures: paroxysmal alterations of neurological function resulting from excessive electrical activity in the brain. Epilepsy begins at all ages and affects 1.2% of the population, making it the fourth most common neurological disorder. Epilepsy has a high societal cost, and it is associated with increased morbidity and sudden unexpected death.
