Summary

The most common method of assessing maintenance efficacy in psychiatry is the randomized discontinuation (enriched) trial, which produces false positive results, leading to mistaken belief in efficacy of many agents. This chapter provides a critique of that trial design and its harmful impact on clinical practice for antidepressants and antipsychotics.
