This publication arises from work funded by the European Union as part of its response to the challenge of antimicrobial resistance. The European Union provided support to the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies so that it could review the growing evidence on policy options to combat AMR across a multitude of contexts. The Observatory worked with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
We are very grateful to the authors for producing their chapters, responding to comments, and amending their chapters to reflect the evidence in other chapters. In addition, the input of LSE research assistants Nishali Patel and Sarah Averi Albala was essential while coordinating the earlier stages of chapter development. We are also grateful to the members of the Antibiotic Resistance Project from the Pew Charitable Trust who undertook an independent review of our book during the later stages of development which resulted in many useful comments and revisions.
We also extend our thanks to our colleagues at the European Observatory: Suszy Lessof, who offered a crucial steering hand in coordinating the work; and Jonathan North, Caroline White and Celine Demaret who were all involved in sharing their experiences with previous volumes and then patiently processing the final manuscript for publication.
