Summary

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is real time bedside use of ultrasound by the clinician to answer a focused diagnostic question, achieve a specific procedural goal or track clinical progression. It has been widely established in adult emergency medicine and intensive care. Increasingly it is also becoming an integral part of paediatric emergency medicine and most recently paediatric intensive care.
