Summary

On 30 January 1933, German president Paul von Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler chancellor of a coalition government. Hitler sought to rule by decree and set elections (5 March) to secure the majority in the Reichstag he needed to do that. Emboldened by the results, Hitler forged forward to establish a fully Nazi state with a radical antisemitic agenda.
