Summary
In the twenty-first century, the Beatles are the focus of thousands of books and analyses and, fittingly, the subject of an every-growing body of college and university curricula. Liverpool Hope University has offered an MA degree in “The Beatles, Popular Music & Society,” which graduated its first student in 2011. Even a cursory search of the web presents scores of courses and syllabi from across the globe. The wealth of courses and interest in such courses has prompted countless academic presentations and publications concerned specifically with the Beatles and pedagogy. This is not surprising. The Beatles have long been the subject of serious music scholars, and the band’s interaction with nearly every aspect of 1960s culture makes them an ideal entry point into that decade. Their imprint is easily read into nearly every field and discipline of the arts, humanities, and social sciences, and the technical aspects of their recordings and cinematic presentation make them suitable for scientific and technical investigation.
