Summary
The crucial factors needed to achieve an efficacious and efficient IVF treatment include the maximisation of the ovarian response to the stimulation, the optimisation of endometrial receptivity, the minimisation of IVF-related risks and the improvement of lab technologies. There has been a continuously growing interest in determining drugs with the potential to improve outcomes after IVF. In the last decades many adjuvant therapies have been proposed but strong evidence to support their role in improving clinical results is still missing. Moreover their side effects are still unclear. Based on this scenario, corticosteroids have been proposed to enhance embryo implantation and reduce miscarriage in ART patients. In this manuscript we briefly analyse and comment on the scientific evidence in literature investigating the purpose of corticosteroids and its effectiveness throughout embryo implantation. Both the beneficial and potentially harmful effects will be discussed thoroughly.
