Summary

During my senior year at Johns Hopkins, a professional services company named PRC came to campus to interview students graduating in mathematics. Although at the time I didn't know the first thing about computers or software, the work their managers described sounded interesting, and I joined them upon graduation. That was in 1978, and not a single year has passed that I haven't felt that that was one of my best decisions ever.

My first project with PRC was a digital imagery exploitation system. My first programming assignment was to develop the image measurement capability. This called for menu-driven software to compute areas and volumes of different image features selected by photointerpreters using the system. It was interesting to apply mathematics in this way, and I discovered that programming was great fun. As I progressed as a programmer, I took on other assignments such as a graphics subsystem, coordinating system translations, and character message translations.

Throughout my years with PRC, I have found a tremendous variety of work, all challenging, and very enjoyable. I spent one year with the research and development group studying artificial intelligence and researching methods of reasoning with uncertainty (which vary from probabilistic methods to fuzzy logic). I spent another year in the systems integration group, working on making hardware and software work together to meet customer requirements.

My current job is actually several jobs in one. I am the Manager of Systems Engineering on a project supporting the Space Station Freedom.
