In 2014, the United Nations set out an ambitious global agenda for sustainable development, with a series of seventeen goals to be met by 2030. 'Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development' is an action plan for the future of the planet, its people and their prosperity, the three essential pillars of sustainable development. The Sustainability Matters series provides carefully curated content in the form of accessible introductions to the many facets of sustainable development viewed through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals. Each book uses a specific objective - for example, ending poverty, gender equality, food insecurity - as a springboard for examining the different challenges underpinning the goal. The authors bring incisive analysis and theoretically robust thinking to the complex and inter-related issues tackled by each goal. Each of the books evaluate progress to date and assess the implications of the barriers to achieving these goals. The series is aimed at students, policy-makers and practitioners across a range of different fields concerned with sustainability - geography, environmental studies, economics, international development, sociology, urban and rural planning, politics/political economy, anthropology, education and gender studies.
