Although not studied by the generative approach (Shlonsky 2017), the embedded Wh- in situ clause nevertheless belongs to the French language spoken in a large amount of areas, and, we believe, to “français tout court” (Blanche-Benveniste & Jeanjean 1987): until now, it has mainly been studied in Quebec (Lefebvre & Maisonneuve 1982; Blondeau & Ledegen 2021) and in Reunion Island (Ledegen 2007a, 2007b, 2007c, 2016; Ledegen & Martin 2020), but it has recently been massively attested in the Multicultural Paris French project in the suburbs of Paris (Gardner-Chloros & Secova 2018) and Strasbourg (Marchessou 2018). These new data could be read as a language contact, as a recent linguistic change, or as a long-established “popular” structure (Guiraud 1966), different analytical hypotheses that will be detailed in this study. These recent data also argue in favour of the methodology of ecological corpora, obtained within the framework of a strong acquaintanceship and located at the pole of communicative proximity (Koch & Oesterreicher 2001). The examination of various existing corpora will reveal the structural functioning of the structure and contrast the corpora following the modes of interaction, the oral or written medium, as well as on the chronological axis.

The Eager Formation (Cambrian Stage 4) of the Cranbrook area, British Columbia, contains abundant, sometimes beautifully preserved, trilobites and rare non-biomineralized taxa. Trilobites were first reported just over a century ago but have received little research attention, resulting in uncertainty in the number and identity of species within the assemblage and ambiguity in the age of the fauna. The trilobites of the Eager Formation in the Cranbrook area are described herein based largely upon material collected in 2015. A minimum of eight (and perhaps up to 11) trilobite species are recognized. The four species of olenelloids (Olenellus santuccii Webster n. sp., Olenellus? schofieldi, Mesonacis eagerensis, and Wanneria cranbrookense Webster n. sp.) are by far the most abundant elements of the fauna. At least two, and perhaps as many as five, species of dorypygid are present, as are two species of “ptychoparioids”. Paucity and poor preservational quality of specimens mean that the various dorypygid and “ptychoparioid” species are left in open nomenclature. Trilobite diversity in the Cranbrook Lagerstätte is comparable to that within other Lagerstätten from Cambrian Stage 4 (Series 2) of Laurentia. The diversity and abundance of trilobites, combined with biostratinomic and trace fossil data, suggest that the assemblage is autochthonous and/or parautochthonous, and that the local environment was at least periodically able to support a “typical” benthic trilobite community. The age of the Cranbrook Lagerstätte is constrained to lie within the middle Dyeran Stage of Laurentia, within what was a substantial stratigraphic gap in the distribution of Burgess Shale-type Lagerstätten.

Dr. Jie Zhang, a distinguished physicist, has made significant contributions in the fields of high-energy-density physics and inertial confinement fusion. Because of these, he was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003, academician of the German National Academy of Sciences in 2007, Fellow of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) in 2008, foreign member of the Royal Academy of Engineering in the United Kingdom in 2011 and foreign associate of the National Academy of Sciences in the United States in 2012. In 2015, he was awarded the prestigious Edward Teller Medal, the most important international award in inertial confinement fusion and high-energy-density physics. In 2021, he was awarded the Future Science Prize in Physical Sciences.

We assessed the impact of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) on patient care using previously established criteria. Among 37 patients receiving mNGS testing, 16% showed results that had a positive clinical impact. While mNGS results may offer valuable supplementary information, results should be interpreted within the broader clinical context and evaluation.

Friendships are a potential factor that influence maltreated children’s risk for psychopathology. This systematic review examined (1) how friendships influence the association between child maltreatment and psychopathology and (2) developmental differences in how friendships influence this association. Four databases were searched. Inclusion criteria were primary study, quantitative, measures of maltreatment and friendship up to the age of 18 years, measures of psychopathology up to the age of 24 years, and a non-maltreated sample. Exclusion criteria were qualitative, reviews or meta-analyses, no distinction between maltreatment and other trauma, and no differentiation between friendships and other support. Risk of bias was assessed. Data were narratively synthesized. Two hundred thirty-five articles were retrieved for full review. Fourteen met inclusion criteria (N = 98,676 participants). Eleven of the fourteen studies found that some aspect of friendships influenced the association between maltreatment and psychopathology, with positive qualities generally decreasing risk and negative qualities increasing risk for psychopathology. However, peer support exacerbated maltreated children’s risk for psychopathology in two studies. Only three studies assessed friendship prior to adolescence, which precluded conclusions regarding developmental differences. Future research should consider developmental differences and use findings and validated measures from the peer relations literature to better understand how friendships influence maltreated youth’s vulnerability to psychopathology.

When reading contemporary theories of distributive justice, one could easily get the impression that questions of fiscal design are normatively speaking merely instrumental for realizing the distributive ideal. Once the overall conception of justice is settled upon, questions of how the state should arrange its institutions and policies are settled if they effectively and efficiently promote the preferred distribution. I argue that such pure instrumentalism is mistaken in the context of fiscal policy. As a result, there is nothing problematic or morally arbitrary about accepting domain-specific principles of fiscal justice.

Among the people who have been hailed for being particularly authentic are notorious liars. But this seems like a contradiction. Can you be authentic if you lie about what you value, believe, or feel? This brief article explores this question and the unique stances on honesty that different notions of authenticity take.

The venous blood test is a prevalent auxiliary medical diagnostic method. Venous blood collection equipment can improve blood collection’s success rate and stability, reduce the workload of medical staff, and improve the efficiency of diagnosis and treatment. This study proposed a rigid-flexible composite puncture (RFCP) strategy, based on which a small 7-degree-of-freedom (DOF) auxiliary venipuncture blood collection (VPBC) robot using a trocar needle was designed. The robot consists of a position and orientation adjustment mechanism and a RFCP end-effector, which can perform RFCP to avoid piercing the blood vessel’s lower wall during puncture. The inverse kinematics solution and validation of the robot were analyzed based on the differential evolution algorithm, after which the quintic polynomial interpolation algorithm was applied to achieve the robot trajectory planning control. Finally, the VPBC robot prototype was developed for experiments. The trajectory planning experiment verified the correctness of the inverse kinematics solution and trajectory planning, and the composite puncture blood collection experiment verified the feasibility of the RFCP strategy.

In the United States, emphasizing their families and talking about parenthood can be a potent strategy for political candidates as voters use information about a candidate’s family life to make assessments of the candidate’s personal attributes and issue competencies. We nonetheless know little about how a candidate’s race affects these assessments. We thus consider how Black women use and benefit from politicizing motherhood, and we argue that the unique intersectional identities of Black women shaped jointly by their race and gender can give Black women a stronger strategic advantage from highlighting motherhood compared to white women. Using both observational and experimental data, we apply this intersectional framework by examining motherhood messages. We identify the extent to which Black women rely on messages about motherhood and how voters respond. Our results show that Black women are just as likely to use motherhood messages relative to white women, and that Black women receive positive evaluations from voters from a message emphasizing motherhood. White and minority voters are equally likely to positively rate Black women who emphasize motherhood.

In the United Kingdom, people living with dementia admitted to National Health Service (NHS) psychiatric/mental health inpatient dementia assessment wards (dementia assessment wards) are nearly always compulsorily detained under a section of the Mental Health Act 1983 owing to the risk and complexity of the presenting condition. As such, dementia assessment wards admit some of the most vulnerable patients in society, yet these environments of care are under-researched and under-reported in the literature. Using care aesthetics as an overarching explanatory lens, this article focuses on the care of one patient (Charlotte – not her real name) resident on a dementia assessment ward and uses a range of qualitative methods to illuminate that experience, including ethnographic observations and a care record review. To further develop the reach of the case study, interviews were also conducted with Charlotte's husband as her main family carer and key ward staff involved in Charlotte's care. Data were analysed using a sensory and narrative-based method to provide a sequential, embodied, individually positioned and storied account of Charlotte's care and interpreted experience on the ward. The analysis revealed that Charlotte's presentation of dementia was complex insofar as she resisted any attempt by the ward staff to offer her food or drink or to help with washing and dressing. Charlotte also swore frequently and loudly and spent time actively ‘watching’ and ‘looking’ at people and the environment in which she was now living. The findings contribute to the fields of critical dementia studies, dementia education, health-care practice and policy making, and may be used to highlight the value of sensory and embodied approaches to capturing a caring dynamic.
