Debate regarding the continuity of Cypriot political forms from the Late Bronze Age to the Cypro-Archaic is persistent, resulting in a scholarly divide with few signs of resolution. This article reviews the historiography of political forms proposed for Cyprus as the essential context for this debate. It considers several major themes that emerge from the debate: the use of anthropological models for state formation, regionalism, social networks, and the nature of spatial power. The author views the debate as centred on two equally valid motivations: using related social science theory to enhance archaeological explanation and emphasizing Cypriot autonomy. These motivations need not be set in opposition but, together, illustrate the island's unique history and provide the basis for vibrant scholarship.

The empirical literature on monetary policy shocks documents that contractionary shocks are followed by a persistent rise in interest rates and a persistent fall in output. Standard monetary business cycle models can account for the initial effects of monetary shocks, but have difficulty generating persistence. In this paper, I examine whether frictions that affect the asset allocation decisions of households can lead to persistent effects. In the model economy, households hold two assets, one used for transactions (the checking account) and one used for investment (the savings account). There is a small transaction cost for moving funds between the accounts. Another key feature of the economy is that the business sector accumulates retained earnings and credits profits to the consumers only with a delay. I show that in this environment monetary shocks have persistent effects even when the adjustment cost is very small.

We present a Gause type predator–prey model incorporating delay due to response of prey population growth to density and gestation. The functional response of predator is assumed to be of Holling type II. In absence of prey, predator has a density dependent death rate. Sufficient criterion for uniform persistence is derived. Conditions are found out for which system undergoes a Hopf–bifurcation.

We develop in this article a new form of wage contracts similar in spirit to those developed by Calvo (1983), and integrate these contracts into a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model. Rational wage setting by utility maximizing trade-unions is explicitly modelled. We derive the optimal wage contracts, and compute the dynamic macroeconomic response to monetary shocks. It is shown that, unlike in most traditional models, this response can display strong persistence, a hump shaped response and positive autocorrelations in output and employment variations. All these results are obtained in a model with explicit closed-form solutions.

Le peuplement des Crustacés de la zone hyporhéique d'un ruisseau des Pyrénées, le Nert, a été étudié pendant un an sur une aire de 30 m2 à 0,6 m et 1 m de profondeur. 35 espèces dont 20 stygobies ont été recensées. Ce peuplement est caractérisé par sa persistance due à la stabilité physique de l'environnement interstitiel. Il témoigne cependant d'une très forte hétérogénéité liée aux conditions hydrodynamiques qui règnent au sein des sédiments.

The biological activity of pirimiphos-methyl (20% e.c.) and a chlorpyriphos-methyl/deltamethrin (20/1% e.c.) formulation applied at different concentrations to glass, jute, plywood and mud surfaees against Prostephanus truncatus (Horn) and Sitophilus zeamais (Motsch.), was compared over a period of 18 weeks. The bioassays were conducted at 28°C and 70% r.h., 1, 4, 7, 14 and 18 weeks after treatment. Insect mortality was significantly influenced by the type of surface, the insecticide concentration, the age of the insecticide deposit and the interactions between these factors. P. truncatus was more susceptible to chlorpyriphos-methyl/deltamethrln deposits than S. zeamais. Amongst the different surfaces, glass retained the highest persistence, followed by jute, plywood and mud against P. truncatus. The insecticide deposits on jute were the most effective in controlling S. zeamais.
