This paper presents a methodology to design band-pass filters having ultrawide stopband characteristics using multilayer circular substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) cavities. The orthogonal microstrip feedlines are used as input and output ports that are present at the top and bottom layers, while the middle layers are used to couple the SIW cavities. Higher-order spurious modes of the circular SIW cavity are suppressed by using orthogonal feeding mechanism and properly adjusting the arc-shaped slots between the cavities. To validate the present approach, two filters (second- and fourth-order) have been designed and fabricated and their characteristics are measured. The second-order filter exhibits a stopband rejection below 25 dB up to nearly 5.07f0, while the fourth-order filter has a stopband characteristic of nearly 5.05f0 with 20 dB rejection. The filters allow only TM010 mode propagation and attenuate the higher-order spurious modes of the cavity.

Fluctuation of pump power is one of the major sources of temporal and intensity noise in femtosecond fiber lasers. In this work, the transfer functions between the relative intensity noise (RIN) of the pump laser diode (LD) and the output RIN, between the RIN of the pump LD and timing jitter of femtosecond fiber lasers are systematically studied. It is demonstrated, for the first time to our knowledge, that the amplitude of the pump RIN transfer function can be effectively decreased by an intra-cavity narrow band-pass filter. In particular, for normal-dispersion lasers, the 3-dB bandwidth of the transfer function can also be narrowed by two-thirds, with a steeper falling edge. Furthermore, with the narrow band-pass filtering, the transfer function is almost independent of the net intra-cavity dispersion due to amplifier similariton formation. The proposed scheme can effectively isolate the pump-induced noise without the need of complex active pump LD control and intra-cavity dispersion management, thus providing an easy way for practical high-power, high-stability femtosecond fiber laser design and related high-precision applications outside the laboratory.

In this paper, a miniaturized open-ended dual-band band-pass filter with stepped series capacitance and shunt meandered line inductance for microwave frequency applications has been designed and discussed. In order to offer ease of fabrication and uniplanar configuration, coplanar waveguide feeding arrangement has been used. Zeroth order resonance, a special phenomenon of composite right/left handed transmission line has been utilized to miniaturize the filter size. The designed filter structure offers miniaturization with overall footprint size of 0.26λg × 0.19λg, where λg is the guided wavelength at the center frequency of 1.46 GHz. It offers 58.90% (1.03–1.89 GHz) and 25.93% (2.55–3.31 GHz) measured −3 dB fractional bandwidth with respect to the center frequencies of 1.46 and 2.93 GHz, respectively. Dispersion plot has been utilized to discuss the metamaterial properties for the proposed dual-band band-pass filter. In addition to above, the proposed filter structure presents almost flat group delay curve within both passbands. The proposed filter structure can be suitably utilized for distinct wireless applications, for example global navigation satellite system (1.559–1.610 GHz), GSM1800 (1.7–1.8 GHz), Wi-MAX (2.5–2.7 GHz), and naval radar and air traffic control (2.7–2.9 GHz).

In this paper, an ultra-wideband (UWB) band-pass filter (BPF) with a sharp notch band is presented. The UWB BPF consists of modified elliptical-ring and multi-mode stub-loaded resonator (MM-SLR). By adding the asymmetric tight coupled lines resonator via input/output (I/O) lines, it can be achieved UWB band-pass response. With adding two bends to the middle resonator, a notch band at 6.86 GHz is created, so that it can be controlled using the mathematical formulas (MF). In the meantime, the equivalent circuit of the middle resonator is obtained using L–C analysis. Measured results of fabricated filter have the advantage such as ultra-wide pass band (fl and fH of the defined UWB pass band are 3.776 and 10.42 GHz, which satisfy the requirements of FCC-specified UWB limits), compact size, low insertion loss <0.65 dB and the stop band of the proposed filter is from 11.1 to 16.32 GHz with attenuation of −39.8 to −42.14 dB, respectively. The proposed UWB filter is realized using the substrate with dielectric constant of 2.2 and substrate height of 0.787 mm. Experimental verification is provided and good agreement has been found between simulation and measurement results.

A novel small-size filtering power divider (PD) featured four-function integration is proposed. These four integrated functions are high-selectivity filtering, inherent DC block, high all-frequency isolation, and high-power applications. Using single-layer planar circuit technology, this proposed PD can be implemented easily. The measured results of a prototype show that it can operate at 2 GHz with a −10 dB matching bandwidth of 6% and all-frequency −15 dB isolation.
