Social media is not a neutral channel. How visible information posted online is depends on many factors such as the network structure, the emotional volatility of the content, and the design of the social media platform. In this paper, we use formal methods to study the visibility of agents and information in a social network, as well as how vulnerable the network is to exploitation. We introduce a modal logic to reason about a social network of agents that can follow each other, post, and share information. We show that by imposing some simple rules on the system, a potentially malicious agent can take advantage of the network construction to post an unpopular opinion that may reach many agents. The network is presented both in static and dynamic forms. We prove completeness, expressivity, and model checking problem complexity results for the corresponding logical systems.

Depending on magnitude and duration, any manoeuvering overload can damage the structure of an aircraft and adversely affect the pilot’s concentration and reaction time. These are all threats to flight safety. The flight safety envelope estimation method based on the classical reachable set cannot take into account the effect of manoeuvering overload. To overcome this limitation, a generalized reachable set known as a cost-limited reachable set is introduced into the computation of flight safety envelopes in this paper. It differs from the classical reachable set in that the performance index of the system can be set as the time integral of a running cost, and it can discuss the ability to reach the trim set before the performance index grows to the admissible cost. When computing the flight safety envelope, the running cost is set as a weighted sum of time consumption and manoeuver overload factor, and the flight safety envelope is defined as a cost-limited reachable set of the trim set. The flight safety envelopes and optimal control laws under the different weight of manoeuver overload factors are analyzed.

For the safety problems caused by the limited landing space of the deck during the arresting process of the carrier-based aircraft, a dynamic model of the carrier-based aircraft’s landing and arresting is built. Based on the batch simulation method, the lateral dynamics safety envelope of the aircraft during the arresting was defined, and the dynamic response of the key points in the envelope during the arresting process was investigated. Subsequently, the influence of engine thrust and aircraft quality on the arresting safety envelope was studied based on reasonable safety evaluation indicators, and the safety status envelope of the deck arresting was given. Then, the particular Hamilton-Jacobi partial differential equation is used to obtain the lateral dynamics safety envelope of the carrier-based aircraft in the process of landing and arresting by backward inversion. Results indicate that engine thrust and landing quality have little effect on the yaw angle in the arresting safety boundary during the arresting. Additionally, with the engine thrust and landing quality increase, the maximum safe off-centre distance gradually decreases, and the safety boundary decreases accordingly. During the phase of landing glide, the engine thrust and quality have little effect on the maximum safe eccentric distance. When the engine thrust is increased by 40%, the maximum safe yaw angle is reduced from 0.3°, and the safety boundary is reduced by 4.2%. When the aircraftquality increases by 40%, the maximum safe yaw angle is reduced by 0.4°, and the safety boundary is reduced by 2.8%. The findings of this paper can provide framework for the research on theaircraft-to-carrier dynamic matching characteristics of the carrier-based system, and is of great significance to the research on improving the safety of the carrier-based aircraft landing arresting.

The reachability semantics for Petri nets can be studied using open Petri nets. For us, an “open” Petri net is one with certain places designated as inputs and outputs via a cospan of sets. We can compose open Petri nets by gluing the outputs of one to the inputs of another. Open Petri nets can be treated as morphisms of a category Open(Petri), which becomes symmetric monoidal under disjoint union. However, since the composite of open Petri nets is defined only up to isomorphism, it is better to treat them as morphisms of a symmetric monoidal double category ${\mathbb O}$ pen(Petri). We describe two forms of semantics for open Petri nets using symmetric monoidal double functors out of ${\mathbb O}$ pen(Petri). The first, an operational semantics, gives for each open Petri net a category whose morphisms are the processes that this net can carry out. This is done in a compositional way, so that these categories can be computed on smaller subnets and then glued together. The second, a reachability semantics, simply says which markings of the outputs can be reached from a given marking of the inputs.

Recently, the idea of applying “jamming” of appropriate media has been exploited for a novel continuum robot design. It is completed by applying vacuum in a robot structure filled with granular media. The backbone deformation and motion are achieved by controlling the fluid pressure. A jammable robotic manipulator does not certainly follow constant curvature during bending, that is, gravitational loads cause section sag. The kinematics describes the deformation of continuum manipulators. This formulation is expected to facilitate additional synthesis and analysis on workspace. This paper presents a Jacobian-based approach to obtain the forward kinematics solution. The proposed kinematic formulation in this paper tries to combine the key advantages of the techniques in constant curvature and variable curvature models. Hence, the deformation of any arbitrary bending is modeled. The workspace synthesis is continued by kinematic analysis, and in this regard, the manipulability measure is computed. This is an important improvement when compared with existing work for this kind of manipulators. It shows how manipulability measure can determine the workspace quality, where usually reachability is used for robot’s capabilities representation. As a result, the forward kinematics and manipulability analysis based on a piecewise-constant-curvature approximation are discussed in the simulation. The simulation has been carried out according to the fabricated experimental robot.

Formal analysis of the emergent structural properties of dynamic networks is largely uncharted territory. We focus here on the properties of forward reachable sets (FRS) as a function of the underlying degree distribution and edge duration. FRS are defined as the set of nodes that can be reached from an initial seed via a path of temporally ordered edges; a natural extension of connected component measures to dynamic networks. Working in a stochastic framework, we derive closed-form expressions for the mean and variance of the exponential growth rate of the FRS for temporal networks with both edge and node dynamics. For networks with node dynamics, we calculate thresholds for the growth of the FRS. The effects of finite population size are explored via simulation and approximation. We examine how these properties vary by edge duration and different cross-sectional degree distributions that characterize a range of scientifically interesting normative outcomes (Poisson and Bernoulli). The size of the forward reachable set gives an upper bound for the epidemic size in disease transmission network models, relating this work to epidemic modeling (Ferguson, 2000; Eames, 2004).

In this paper, we define and study strong right-invariant sub-Riemannian structures on the group of diffeomorphisms of a manifold with bounded geometry. We derive the Hamiltonian geodesic equations for such structures, and we provide examples of normal and of abnormal geodesics in that infinite-dimensional context. The momentum formulation gives a sub-Riemannian version of the Euler–Arnol’d equation. Finally, we establish some approximate and exact reachability properties for diffeomorphisms, and we give some consequences for Moser theorems.

This paper presents a novel configuration optimization method for multi degree-of-freedom modular reconfigurable robots (MRR) using a memetic algorithm (MA) that combines genetic algorithms (GAs) and a local search method. The proposed method generates multiple solutions to the inverse kinematics (IK) problem for any given spatial task and the MA chooses the most suitable configuration based on the search objectives. Since the dimension of each robotic link in this optimization is considered telescopic, the proposed method is able to find better solutions to the IK problem than GAs. The case study for a 3-DOF MRR shows that the MA finds solutions to the IK problem much faster than a GA with noticeably less reachability error. Additional case studies show that the proposed MA method can find multiple IK solutions in various scenarios and identify the fittest solution as a suboptimal configuration for the MRR.

The flexible robotic drilling system has been widely used in the aircraft industry in recent years. There are three ways to attach an end-effector to a robot, which are the pointing configuration, the hanging configuration, and the side configuration. The simulation model of robot and workpiece is constructed by using MATLAB software. According to the three configurations, reachability, manipulability, joint useability, and joint passive torque of a robot are calculated by means of the MATLAB language. Based on the calculation results and various measures, the performance, including reachability, manipulability, joint useability, and deformation, of a robot are analyzed. The analysis results show that the pointing configuration has the best reachability, a long service life, and small energy consumption, and it substantially reduces the fifth axis joint passive torque produced by the clamp force, which will improve positional accuracy of holes; the hanging configuration and the side configuration improve robot's manipulability and are suitable for drilling in the curved surface.

We present the positional abilities of a humanoid manipulator based on an improved kinematical model of the human arm. This was synthesized from electro-optical measurements of healthy female and male subjects. The model possesses three joints: inner shoulder joint, outer shoulder joint and elbow joint. The first functions as the human sternoclavicular joint, the second functions as the human glenohumeral joint, and the last replicates the human humeroulnar rotation. There are three links included, the forearm and the upper arm link which are of a constant length, and the shoulder link which is expandable. Mathematical interrelations between the joint coordinates are also taken into consideration. We determined the reachability of a humanoid arm, treated its orienting redundancy in the shoulder complex and the positional redundancy in the shoulder-elbow complexes, and discussed optimum configurations in executing different tasks. The results are important for the design and control of humanoid robots, in medicine and sports.
