We consider two questions on the geometry of Lipschitz-free $p$-spaces $\mathcal {F}_p$, where $0< p\leq 1$, over subsets of finite-dimensional vector spaces. We solve an open problem and show that if $(\mathcal {M}, \rho )$ is an infinite doubling metric space (e.g. an infinite subset of an Euclidean space), then $\mathcal {F}_p (\mathcal {M}, \rho ^\alpha )\simeq \ell _p$ for every $\alpha \in (0,\,1)$ and $0< p\leq 1$. An upper bound on the Banach–Mazur distance between the spaces $\mathcal {F}_p ([0, 1]^d, |\cdot |^\alpha )$ and $\ell _p$ is given. Moreover, we tackle a question due to Albiac et al. [4] and expound the role of $p$, $d$ for the Lipschitz constant of a canonical, locally coordinatewise affine retraction from $(K, |\cdot |_1)$, where $K=\cup _{Q\in \mathcal {R}} Q$ is a union of a collection $\emptyset \neq \mathcal {R} \subseteq \{ Rw + R[0,\,1]^d: w\in \mathbb {Z}^d\}$ of cubes in $\mathbb {R}^d$ with side length $R>0$, into the Lipschitz-free $p$-space $\mathcal {F}_p (V, |\cdot |_1)$ over their vertices.

Bayart and Ruzsa [Difference sets and frequently hypercyclic weighted shifts. Ergod. Th. & Dynam. Sys.35 (2015), 691–709] have recently shown that every frequently hypercyclic weighted shift on $\ell ^p$ is chaotic. This contrasts with an earlier result of Bayart and Grivaux [Frequently hypercyclic operators. Trans. Amer. Math. Soc.358 (2006), 5083–5117], who constructed a non-chaotic frequently hypercyclic weighted shift on $c_0$ . We first generalize the Bayart–Ruzsa theorem to all Banach sequence spaces in which the unit sequences form a boundedly complete unconditional basis. We then study the relationship between frequent hypercyclicity and chaos for weighted shifts on Fréchet sequence spaces, in particular, on Köthe sequence spaces, and then on the special class of power series spaces. We obtain, rather curiously, that every frequently hypercyclic weighted shift on $H(\mathbb {D})$ is chaotic, while $H(\mathbb {C})$ admits a non-chaotic frequently hypercyclic weighted shift.

The algebra of all Dirichlet series that are uniformly convergent in the half-plane of complex numbers with positive real part is investigated. When it is endowed with its natural locally convex topology, it is a non-nuclear Fréchet Schwartz space with basis. Moreover, it is a locally multiplicative algebra but not a Q-algebra. Composition operators on this space are also studied.

By a tiling of a topological linear space $X$, we mean a covering of $X$ by at least two closed convex sets, called tiles, whose nonempty interiors are pairwise disjoint. Study of tilings of infinite dimensional spaces was initiated in the 1980's with pioneer papers by V. Klee. We prove some general properties of tilings of locally convex spaces, and then apply these results to study the existence of tilings of normed and Banach spaces by tiles possessing certain smoothness or rotundity properties. For a Banach space $X$, our main results are the following.

• (i) $X$ admits no tiling by Fréchet smooth bounded tiles.

• (ii) If $X$ is locally uniformly rotund $\left( \text{LUR} \right)$, it does not admit any tiling by balls.

• (iii) On the other hand, some ${{\ell }_{1}}\left( \Gamma \right)$ spaces, $\Gamma $ uncountable, do admit a tiling by pairwise disjoint $\text{LUR}$ bounded tiles.

The purpose of this paper is to present a brief discussion of both the normed space of operator p-summable sequences in a Banach space and the normed space of sequentially p-limited operators. The focus is on proving that the vector space of all operator p-summable sequences in a Banach space is a Banach space itself and that the class of sequentially p-limited operators is a Banach operator ideal with respect to a suitable ideal norm- and to discuss some other properties and multiplication results of related classes of operators. These results are shown to fit into a general discussion of operator [Y,p]-summable sequences and relevant operator ideals.

We show that there exists a non-archimedean Fréchet-Montel space $W$ with a basis and with a continuous norm such that any non-archimedean Fréchet space of countable type is isomorphic to a quotient of $W$. We also prove that any non-archimedean nuclear Fréchet space is isomorphic to a quotient of some non-archimedean nuclear Fréchet space with a basis and with a continuous norm.

Let 1 < p < + ∞ or p = 0 and let A = (an)n be an increasing sequence of strictly positive weights on I. Let F be a Fréchet space. It is proved that if λp(A) satisfies the density condition of Heinrich and a certain condition (Ct) holds, then the (LF)-space LBi(λp(A), F) is a topological subspace of Lb(λp(A), F). It is also proved that these conditions are necessary provided F = λq(A) or F contains a complemented copy of Iq with 1 < p ≤ q < +∞.

A Toeplitz decomposition of a locally convez space E into subspaces (Ek) with continuous projections (Pk) is a decomposition of every x ∈ E as x = ΣkPkx where ordinary summability has been replaced by summability with respect to an infinite and row-finite matrix. We extend to the setting of Toeplitz decompositions a number of results about the locally convex structure of a space with a Schauder decomposition. Namely, we give some necessary or sufficient conditions for being reflexive, a Montel space or a Schwartz space. Roughly speaking, each of these locally convex properties is linked to a property of the convergence of the decomposition. We apply these results to study some structural questions in projective tensor products and spaces with Cesàro bases.

The problems on isomorphic classification and quasiequivalence of bases are studied for the class of mixed $F-$, $\text{DF}$-power series spaces, i.e. the spaces of the following kind

where ${{a}_{i}}(p,\,q)\,=\,\exp \left( \left( p\,-\,{{\lambda }_{i}}q \right){{a}_{i}} \right),\,p,\,q\,\in \,\mathbb{N},\,\text{and}\,\lambda \,\text{=}\,{{\left( {{\lambda }_{i}} \right)}_{i\in \mathbb{N}}},\,a=\,{{({{a}_{i}})}_{i\in \mathbb{N}}}$ are some sequences of positive numbers. These spaces, up to isomorphisms, are basis subspaces of tensor products of power series spaces of $F-$ and $\text{DF}$-types, respectively. The m-rectangle characteristic $\mu _{m}^{\lambda ,a}\left( \delta ,\,\varepsilon ;\,\tau ,\,t \right),\,m\,\in \,\mathbb{N}$ of the space $G\left( \text{ }\!\!\lambda\!\!\text{ ,}\,a \right)$ is defined as the number of members of the sequence ${{({{\lambda }_{i}},{{a}_{i}})}_{i\in \mathbb{N}}}$ which are contained in the union of m rectangles ${{P}_{k}}\,=\,\left( {{\delta }_{k}},\,{{\varepsilon }_{k}} \right]\,\times \,\left( {{\tau }_{k}},\,{{t}_{k}} \right]$ , $k\,=\,1,2,\ldots ,m$. It is shown that each m-rectangle characteristic is an invariant on the considered class under some proper definition of an equivalency relation. The main tool are new compound invariants, which combine some version of the classical approximative dimensions (Kolmogorov, Pełczynski) with appropriate geometrical and interpolational operations under neighborhoods of the origin (taken from a given basis).

The sequence of spaces of Maddox, c0(p), c(p)and l∞(p), are investigated. Here, p — (pk) is a bounded sequence of strictly positive numbers. It is observed that C0(P) is an echelon space of order 0 and that l∞(p) is a co-echelon space of order ∞, while clearly c(p) = c0(p) ⊗ 〈 (1,1,1,…) 〉. This sheds a new light on the topological and sequence space structure of these spaces: Based on the highly developed theory of (co-) echelon spaces all known and various new structural properties are derived.

Strong convergence has been investigated in summability theory and Fourier analysis. This paper extends strong convergence to a topological property of sequence spaces E. The more general property of strong boundedness is also defined and examined. One of the main results shows that for an FK-space E which contains all finite sequences, strong convergence is equivalent to the invariance property E = ℓ ν0. E with respect to coordinatewise multiplication by sequences in the space ℓν0 defined in the paper. Similarly, strong boundedness is equivalent to another invariance E = ℓν.E. The results of the paper are applied to summability fields and spaces of Fourier series.

If n > 2 and M(m1,..., xn) is a symmetric norm of the form m(x1, m(x2, m{...)...), where m is a symmetric norm on ℝ2, then m(x, y) = (|x|p + |y|p)1/p for some p ≥ 1 or else m(x, y) = max{|x|,|y|}.

A characterization is given of those families ℱ of subsets of the positive integers for which σ(ℓ1, ) is sequentially complete, where denotes the linear span of the characteristic functions of ℱ. Consequences include some known matrix results, such as Hahn's Theorem and conditions required for a matrix to "sum" the characteristic functions of the lacunary sets.
