The original version of this article was published with a mis-citation and a misspelling.

Under the subheading “Origins of epidemics”, the original (incorrect) paragraph reads:

This exchange, along with research by Li Tana, suggests the 1820 Vietnamese epidemic might have been a pandemic originating in Siam (Thailand), entering Vietnam through Hà Tiên and subsequently spreading nationwide (Li Tana 2015, pp. 194–213).

This paragraph should have cited Dr Lư Vĩ An. The correct version reads:

This exchange, along with research by Lư Vĩ An, suggests the 1820 Vietnamese epidemic might have been a pandemic originating in Siam (Thailand), entering Vietnam through Hà Tiên and subsequently spreading nationwide (Lư 2020).

Additionally, in the introduction, the name of Lư Vĩ An was mis-spelled in one place.
