This is the first issue of the Netherlands Journal of Geosciences (NJG) published under the wings of Cambridge University Press (CUP). Over the last year we have experienced major changes, and financial limitations have forced us to reconsider the costs of our workflow. Thanks to the efforts of the Stichting NJG, a solution was found for the finances and, at the same time, we increased the accessibility of our publications by moving to CUP. The journal is still printed and sent to subscribers by mail, which is very costly. CUP provides us with a better and more efficient manuscript handling system, and papers can now be published online as soon as they are ready. We thank Jos Rietstap, our former technical editor, for the work he has done for NJG during his years with us. Other changes are a new associate editor Geert-Jan Vis, and the separation of the Advisory Editors into an Advisory Board and an Editorial Board, clarifying the roles and responsibilities of NJG’s supporters.
The outlook for the contents of the journal for the coming year is again good. The number of submitted manuscripts has increased, possibly as a result of submission invitation letters, which have been sent to potential- and past authors. In addition, CUP is actively promoting the journal at conferences for subscriptions and submissions. Furthermore, three special issues are under construction and suggestions for three others, to be published next year, have been put forward.
