Acknowledgements
The content of this book is the outcome of many conversations and stimulating interactions I have had with many friends and colleagues over the years. I wish to acknowledge with sincere gratitude the support of my respective mentor and friend, Geoffrey Amponsah and Hilda Esezobor. Geoffrey and Hilda were generous in providing me with a space to complete the book.
A number of friends and colleagues encouraged me to pursue the manuscript to its completion or read aspects of the draft manuscript. In particular, Coleen Vogel deserves my gratitude. As my post-doctoral supervisor, I am especially indebted to Coleen for her guidance and intellectual inspiration, while encouraging active engagement in various activist platforms. It gives me great pleasure to also thank my colleagues at GCI, Bob, Francois, Mulala, Serge, Kaera, Ruwa, Anita, Khangelani, Yolani, Heidi, Faith, Jacqui, and David.
I would like to thank one person who played an important role in the process of planning, writing and publishing this book: Magnus Killander. Words cannot express the invaluable contributions of Magnus who sparked my interest in pursuing unconventional approaches to advancing social justice. I also owe particular thanks to Prof Dan Kuwali, Dr Romola Adeola and Dr Michael Addaney, all of whom provided searching criticism and perceptive comments on the draft.
My wife Itsaneng, children Bright Jnr and Veronica, were a constant source of support. I am greatly thankful for their love and encouragement. I will also thank my parents and siblings, Ben Bright Nkrumah, Veronica, Patricia, Christie, Juliana, Prince, Stephen and Emmanuel, for your constant guidance and support. Although I have not always heeded your counsel, you continue to be instrumental in my development.
I thank two anonymous readers from Cambridge University Press for their insightful criticisms and useful suggestions. I extend the same gratitude to Maria Marsh (Commissioning Editor) for her outstanding work throughout the publication process. While all these people have provided invaluable support in one way or another, the conventional caveats apply.
