In the April edition of Primary Health Care Research and Development (PHCRD), Adams et al. (Reference Adams, Lester, Kendall and Bryar2011) outlined key challenges facing Academic Primary Care (APC), calling for dialogue and debate on these hot topics both within and outside the APC community. The Society for Academic Primary Care (SAPC) is developing a number of ways to stimulate and support these conversations. The relaunched PHCRD/SAPC networking pages will be an important part of this work.

In each edition, an expert in the field will introduce a topic. This month, Rosenthal et al. (Reference Rosenthal, McKinley and Pearson2011) outline ongoing work in University departments and SAPC to develop a core aspect of scholarly practice – namely education and teaching. We hope their reflections will stimulate discussions in your own networks. And we invite you to share those conversations with the wider (S)APC community through comments to the journal, and on the SAPC website (www.sapc.ac.uk). SAPC members can also start and join conversations in our Discussion Forum (www.sapc.ac.uk/index.php/forum).Footnote 1

We welcome your ideas for future featured topics, as well as ways to promote and disseminate useful discussion and debate. Perhaps come and discuss this with us at our annual conference in Bristol on 6–8 July 2011 (http://www.sapc.ac.uk/index.php/conference-a-events), or leave a comment on our website (http://www.sapc.ac.uk/index.php/primary-health-care-rad). If you would prefer, you can also contact Joanne directly – [email protected]

We look forward to ongoing conversations!
