In December of last year, Cambridge University Press acquired Greenwich Medical Media Limited – the publishers of Cardiology in the Young. This acquisition is a wholly positive development for the Journal, and there will be no disruption, either in the short or the long term, to the production, publication, or distribution of the Journal. Cardiology in the Young represents a pivotal medical publication for one of the world’s leading academic publishers, and will benefit from Cambridge’s enhanced international outreach.

Cambridge University Press, with headquarters in the historic city of Cambridge, England, is the printing and publishing house of the University of Cambridge. It is an integral part of the University, and has similar charitable objectives in advancing knowledge, education, learning, and research. For centuries, the Press has extended the research and teaching activities of the University by making available worldwide through its printing and publishing a remarkable range of academic and educational books, journals, examination papers, and Bibles.

The Press is both very ancient and very modern. It is, in fact, the oldest printing and publishing house in the world. It was founded on a royal charter granted to the University by King Henry VIII in 1534, and has been operating continuously as a printer and publisher since the first Press book was printed in 1584. Since then, books under the imprint of the Press have appeared in each and every year, and the Press has grown to become one of the largest academic and educational publishers in the world, publishing over 2000 books and 180 journals a year, which are sold across the globe.

The publishing of journals by the Press began in 1821 with the Transactions of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, which has since split into separate Biological Reviews and Mathematical Proceedings titles. The list has grown to some 180 titles such as Psychological Medicine, Behavioral and Brain Sciences, Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society, and Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology for Mac Keith Press. All of these have been available online for some years through the Cambridge Journals Online service.

Cambridge University Press has reaffirmed its commitment to the future development of the Journal, and to build upon the success achieved with Greenwich Medical Media. One crucial development will be the integration of a new online system for peer review, a feature which will assist both the authors and editors.

We can confirm that our new association endorses totally the existing mission statement and aims that were established for the Journal under the stewardship of Greenwich Medical Media. Thus, the publisher and Editorial Board remain committed to publish in timely fashion all material of suitable scientific standard, whilst further developing the online presence of the Journal.
