In the third paragraph of the article by Garrido and Figueroa (2023), the authors mistakenly used a word that changes the meaning of a sentence. Originally it read as follows:

Thus, in various cases, the encomienda was a threat to encomenderos’ survival as well as to the continuity of their cultural and political life.

It should read as follows:

Thus, in various cases, the encomienda was a threat to indigenous communities’ survival as well as to the continuity of their cultural and political life.

This has been corrected.
