The publishers apologises that upon publication of this paper the male age class for the Japanese butterfish specimens listed in the abstract was incorrectly listed and should have read as ‘2+ age class’ and should have read as below:

The maximum age for both sexes was estimated to be ~4. The female portion of the population was dominated by the 3+ age class, while the male portion was dominated by the 2+ age class.
