Like all academic journals, the survival and functioning day to day of The Journal of Laryngology & Otology is dependent on the dedicated and largely unremunerated labour of our reviewers and assistant editors. They are almost all very busy clinicians and/or researchers, and have inevitable and often onerous commitments outside of their standard job plan, so this regular toil for The Journal is conducted in ‘premium time’, with all the implications for work–life balance. The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has crystallised in most people's minds the real value of such premium time, and we are privileged to benefit from the loyalty of our team in giving us such a valuable resource.

We are most grateful to all of our reviewers, especially at times when the health service is under great pressure, and the demands on clinicians are high and show no sign of abating. Much of our work is conducted by our small group of senior editors, assistant editors, emeritus editors and international liaison editors, who are listed in The Journal's flyleaf and online. We also benefit from a pool of expert reviewers, who contribute considerably to our work, and many of whom move up to assistant editor as and when vacancies arise. Some, including Patrick Bradley, have voluntarily returned from retirement to help with particularly difficult backlogs, such as in head and neck surgery, which has been a very great help to us in maintaining workflow.

We have been very grateful for the help with audiology reviews given by Penny Feltham, who is our new Audiology Adviser, a vacancy which sadly arose as a result of the tragic and sudden death of our longstanding and highly regarded colleague, Professor David Baguley. We welcome Penny to The Journal team.

We would like to formally thank our reviewers, and name them below:
