Metabolic syndrome and schizophrenia
Metabolic syndrome is a global epidemic that can have severe effects. It is common in people with schizophrenia, and antipsychotic agents can increase the risks. However, appropriate intervention by clinicians can reduce the risk of mortality and morbidity. This module offers a framework to help with the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome and advises on appropriate treatment paths for patients at risk. CPD credits: 1
School refusal
School non-attendance is associated with reduced academic performance, social isolation, impaired self-esteem and increased likelihood of unemployment in the future. There are many reasons why a child may fail to attend school, but this module focuses on emotionally based school refusal, specifically due to problems such as fear, anxiety or oppositional behaviour. It discusses how to provide a comprehensive assessment and management plan and suggests approaches for more complex cases. CPD credits: 1
