IJMWT special issue on the 2015 French Microwave Days

This special issue of International Journal of Microwave and Wireless Technologies is dedicated to topics discussed during the 19th Bi-Annual French National Microwave Days (19th JNM), held in Bordeaux, France, on June 2–5, 2015. The 19th JNM Conference was hosted at the Bordeaux Institute of Technology (Bx-INP), and organized by the IMS Research Center (Laboratoire de l'intérgatin du Matériau au Système). This very successful event welcomed more than 600 conference attendees. The technical program, through oral and poster sessions, focused on the following topics: “Antennas and Propagation”, “Passive Components, Circuits and Devices”, “Active Components and Integrated Circuits”, “Complex Systems, Instrumentation and Applications”, and “Emerging technologies”. The 19th JNM Congress was preceded by a 1-day special topic conference on “Drones” with the contribution of famous institute: Institut Supérieur de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace (ISAE), Dassault, Parrot, Labex Sigma-Lim.

The scientific committee of the 19th JNM was chaired by Professor Martine Villegas (ESYCOM/ESIEE, Paris) with the vice president, Professor Eric Kerhervé (IMS, Bordeaux). Three hundred and thirty papers of a high technical level were presented: 160 papers were presented during 32 oral sessions, and 159 posters were presented in 16 poster sessions. A specific exhibition area hosted 18 exhibitors: AIRBUS DEFENCE AND SPACE, AMCAD ENGINEERING, ANRITSU, ANSYS, CST, DICONEX, ELHYTE, FOCUS MICROWAVE, GTID, INOVEOS, KAPTEOS, MB ELECTRONIQUE, ROHDE & SCHWARZ, TECH-INTER, TEKTRONIX/KEITHLEY, VERSYS, CASDEN, and the IEEE STUDENT BRANCH AND MTT CHAPTER. The local organizing committee, with a team of many enthusiastic volunteers, was chaired by Dr. Nathalie Deltimple. The scientific organization was conducted by Professor Thierry Taris.

The 19th JNM event was also supported by the European Microwave Association (EuMA), IEEE French Section, and IdEX Bordeaux with six best paper awards. The recipients were:

This special issue of the International Journal of Microwave and Wireless Technologies, published by Cambridge University Press in collaboration with EuMA, covers the four topics with papers selected from the 16 best papers presented at the 19th JNM Conference. The authors were requested to submit their papers, and 36 international reviewers agreed to review the English versions. Finally, six of those papers were found suitable for publication in this special issue. We wish to acknowledge all the authors for submitting their papers and all the reviewers for their in-depth evaluation from June to October 2015. We hope this special issue will give to the readers intereting and relevant material in the field of microwave engineering.

Thierry Taris received his Master and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Bordeaux (UB), France, in 2000 and 2003, respectively. He joined the IMS Laboratory in 2005 as an Associate Professor of UB, and then the Bordeaux Institut of Technology (Bx-INP) in 2014 as a Professor. His research interests are related to the Radio-Frequency Integrated Circuits in Silicon technologies. He has published more than 70 papers in international journals and conferences, has ten invited papers, three Best Paper Awards and is co-inventor of six patents. Pr. Taris is a member of the ST-IMS common lab for 6 years and an invited Professor of the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada, and the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Suisse.

Anthony Ghiotto received the M.Sc. degree in 2005 and the Ph.D. degree in 2008 all in Electrical Engineering from the Grenoble Institute of Technology, Grenoble, France. He has been a Post-Doctoral fellow from 2009 to 2011 and a Research Associates from 2011 to 2012 at the Poly-Grames Research Center from the École Polytechnique de Montréal, Montréal, QC, Canada. Since September 2012, Dr. Ghiotto holds an Assistant Professor position at the ENSEIRB-MATMECA engineering school from the Bordeaux Institute of Technology and the Laboratory of Integration from Materials to Systems (IMS) from the University of Bordeaux in Talence, France. He has authored more than 100 research articles and was the recipient of the Young Scientist Award of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) in 2008. His current research interests include the analysis, design and integration of microwave, and millimeter wave passive and active circuits.
