Spirastrella regina, a replacement name for Spirastrella angulata Bertolino, Costa & Pansini, 2019 from Costa et al. (Reference Costa, Bavestrello, Micaroni, Pansini, Strano and Bertolino2019).
Here we correct incorrect information that was provided by Costa et al. (Reference Costa, Bavestrello, Micaroni, Pansini, Strano and Bertolino2019) on the name of the new species Spirastrella angulata Bertolino, Costa & Pansini, 2019.
The name Spirastrella angulata was already used for the species Spirastrella angulata (Bowerbank, 1872) which, however, is not accepted in the World Porifera Database (van Soest et al., Reference Van Soest, Boury-Esnault, Hooper, Rützler, de Voogd, Alvarez, Hajdu, Pisera, Manconi, Schönberg, Klautau, Picton, Kelly, Vacelet, Dohrmann, Díaz, Cárdenas, Carballo, Rios and Downey2020); to avoid taxonomic misunderstanding we have decided to change the name of the species described by us to:
Spirastrella regina Bertolino, Costa & Pansini 2019.
ETYMOLOGY CORRIGENDUM
The species is named after the peculiar shape of the spiraster extremities similar to a queen's crown.
The authors apologise for the incorrect information.
