It is a great honor to be selected as the next Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society (JINS). Drs. Igor Grant, the founding Editor-in-Chief, and Dr. Kathleen Haaland, the outgoing Editor-in-Chief, have established JINS as one of the most influential forums for the communication of the science of neuropsychology. My primary goal in accepting this position is to expand upon their vision to make JINS a prominent vehicle for authors to continue to submit their best work and consumers to view its contents as a “must-read” to keep pace with rapidly evolving scientific developments in our field. Keeping pace with scientific discovery will involve broadening the scope of topics published in JINS to include translational contributions from genetics, imaging, and cognitive neuroscience, disciplines that interface and advance our understanding of brain–behavior relationships.
Beginning with this issue, JINS not only has a new cover design but a new editorial team selected for their leadership and expertise in key research areas in neuropsychology. The team also reflects the geographic diversity consistent with the flagship journal of the International Neuropsychological Society. My senior editorial team will also have an expanded role. Beginning in 2014, all new submissions to JINS will be assigned to an action editor consisting of either an Associate Editor or the Editor-in-Chief, depending on the content area of the manuscript. The action editor will not only be responsible for selecting reviewers, but also for generating decision letters.
In addition to regular research articles and brief communications, JINS will continue to publish critical and short reviews, dialogues, and special issues (symposia). The solicitation and coordination of reviews, dialogues, and special issues will be the responsibility of the Associate Editors and the Editor-in-Chief. JINS will accept book review submissions, but will not actively solicit contributions from authors.
As noted above, all manuscripts submitted on or after January 1, 2014, will be processed by my editorial office. Through the first 3 months of 2014, Dr. Haaland and her editorial team have graciously agreed to continue processing manuscripts initially submitted in 2013 or earlier. This was done to maintain continuity of the review process. On April 1, 2014, any manuscripts that have not completed the editorial process will be reassigned to my editorial team. Our objective is to make the transition in editorial offices as seamless as possible for authors.
As the new Editor-in-Chief of JINS, I pledge to handle the review of your scientific contributions in a fair and expeditious manner. My aspiration is for JINS to publish innovative studies that have a meaningful impact on the direction of scientific inquiry in the field of neuropsychology for years to come.
