The International Journal of Tropical Insect Science is now in its 30th volume. In last year's 29th volume, most of the papers originated from Africa and Asia, followed by South and North America. The dominating subject areas were arthropod ecology and biodiversity and stored product pests, followed by biological control of agricultural pests as well as studies on the behavioural and chemical ecology of tropical insects. In addition, two medical entomology papers are part of this volume. I would like to encourage more contributions in medical entomology because of the rising importance of arthropod-transmitted infectious diseases in the tropics such as West Nile virus, chikungunya virus and Rift Valley fever to name just a few.

With 39% in 2009, we had a similar rejection quota as in the previous year. However, we recorded a 15% increase in submissions, and we hope to continue this very positive trend in 2010!

I wish to thank all authors who continue to submit their research papers for publication in our journal. One hundred and thirty dedicated reviewers for volume 29 helped to uphold the standards of the journal by providing their time and expertise to review the papers.

Recently, with support from Cambridge University Press, we have developed multilingual flyers publicizing the International Journal of Tropical Insect Science in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. We hope that these will raise the profile of and attract more scientists to publish their findings in our journal.
