Rock beach

Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image of Ag nanoflakes on rough poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) showing similarities to a rocky beach. The SEM image was taken using a Hitachi S-4800 Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope, and Ag fake colors were added using computer software without manipulation of the original image.

August 2020 answer key

Images on the top were submitted to the Materials Research Society “Science as Art” competition. Images on the bottom were modified in Adobe Photoshop for this “Look Again” activity.
