As Central European History’s recently-appointed fifth editor, I am pursuing a variety of new initiatives. One of those initiatives is a series of featured essays appearing under the title The Present is History. The Present is History offers central European historians an opportunity to apply their own research to issues of contemporary interest or concern. A fine first example appears in this issue: Gavriel D. Rosenfeld's “An American Führer? Nazi Analogies and the Struggle to Explain Donald Trump.”

If you have an idea for an essay suitable for The Present is History, I would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact me at to discuss your ideas.
